Harvard Management Company, Inc. (HMC) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Harvard University. Founded in 1974, it is charged with managing the University’s endowment, pension assets, working capital, and non-cash gifts. HMC has a solid governance structure and an approach designed to attract the best investment management talent for the benefit of Harvard.

HMC’s mission is to preserve and enhance the financial assets of Harvard University. Specifically, its objective is to maintain and increase the future purchasing power of the University’s capital after taking into account annual distributions to the University and the negative impact of inflation. To consistently achieve its objective, HMC combines the highest level of investment management expertise with structural advantages that include the support of a AAA balance sheet, stability of capital and a long-term investor perspective.
