Jane Mendillo, President and CEOJane Mendillo became President and CEO of Harvard Management Co. as of July 1, 2008.
Ms. Mendillo previously has spent 15 years at HMC, from 1987 to 2002, in several key positions, including Vice President of External Management, Vice President for Trusts, Vice President for Private Equity and as a member of the Internal Equities management team.
As Vice President of External Management, Ms. Mendillo pioneered the company’s first investments in timberland in the late 1990’s, a relatively undiscovered asset class at the time that quickly became an important and profitable innovation in the portfolio.
Ms. Mendillo was named Chief Investment Officer of Wellesley College in 2002. She spent five years building the college’s first investment office, restructuring its investment portfolio and leading the endowment to substantial growth through a period of rapidly changing market conditions.
Ms. Mendillo received the 2007 Industry Leadership Award given by 100 Women in Hedge Funds in recognition of her “talent, ethics, and passion, which help define the hedge fund industry’s standard of excellence.”
She earned her BA and MBA degrees from Yale University. She began her business career as a management consultant with Bain & Company in Boston. She is a Chartered Financial Analyst and a member of the Boston Security Analysts Society, Inc., the Boston Committee on Foreign Relations and the Boston Economic Club.
Stephen Blyth, Managing Director, Head of Internal ManagementStephen Blyth is Managing Director and Head of Internal Portfolio Management. He is also a faculty member of the Department of Statistics at Harvard University.
He joined HMC in October 2006 from Deutsche Bank where he was Managing Director and head of the Global Rates proprietary trading group in London, leading a team of professionals trading across fixed income markets.
Mr. Blyth previously was Managing Director in the Interest Rate Group of Morgan Stanley in New York, where he traded U.S. interest-rate derivatives. He also has served as Vice President in the specialized derivatives Group at HSBC.
He earned a PhD in statistics from Harvard University and MA in mathematics from Christ’s College, Cambridge University. After graduation from Harvard, Mr. Blyth was a lecturer in the Department of Mathematics at Imperial College London.
He has published articles in both academic and industry journals and is a frequent speaker at international finance conferences.
Andrew G. Wiltshire, Managing Director, Head of External ManagementAndrew Wiltshire, who joined HMC in September 2001, is Head of External Management and is responsible for private equity, real estate, natural resources, infrastructure and externally-managed liquid market portfolios.
Mr. Wiltshire previously served as Managing Director of Natural Resources and Director of Timberland Investment at HMC.
A native of New Zealand, Mr. Wiltshire has decades of experience in the field of natural resources. From 1998 to 2001 he was a partner at GMO Renewable Resources.
Before his move to Boston, Mr. Wiltshire worked for Rayonier New Zealand Ltd., the New Zealand subsidiary of the U.S. forest products firm Rayonier Inc., from 1990 to 1998. He managed log trading and forest resources functions before his appointment as managing director.
Prior to Rayonier, Mr. Wiltshire worked for the New Zealand Forest Service from 1975 to 1987 in a variety of planning and management roles in natural and plantation forests.
Mr. Wiltshire received his undergraduate Bachelor of Forestry Science degree from Canterbury University in Christchurch, New Zealand. He earned a Master of Business Administration from the Advanced Business Program at the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand.
Robert A. Ettl, Managing Director, Chief Operating OfficerRobert Ettl joined Harvard Management Company as Chief Operating Officer in October 2008.
Before arriving at HMC, Mr. Ettl served in executive positions at Allianz Global Investors, including Chief Executive Officer for the Alpha Vision hedge fund subsidiary and Global Chief Technology and Operations Officer.
Mr. Ettl was Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Pacific Investment Management Co. (PIMCO) when it was acquired by Allianz. Mr. Ettl joined PIMCO in 1995 as Chief Operations Officer and helped direct PIMCO’s international expansion as Chief Operating Officer of its Global Unit.
He previously served in management positions in Salomon Brothers’ government arbitrage trading analytics, technology and operations divisions and was a senior consultant for Arthur Andersen & Co. (now Accenture.)
He holds a BA degree in economics and an MBA in finance from Columbia University.
