Harvard Management Company, Inc. (HMC) is a dynamic, mission-driven investment organization. Founded in 1974, HMC was created to serve as an internal, captive money management firm charged with the responsibility of managing Harvard University’s endowment, pension assets, working capital, and non-cash gifts. On its founding, the Corporation actively sought to create an organization that operates at arms length from the University, with a solid governance structure and an approach designed to attract the best investment management talent for the benefit of Harvard.

Today, HMC operates as a fully integrated investment management company, with almost 200 people in its downtown Boston office responsible for managing over $40 billion of capital. Investment teams oversee capital deployed across 11 different asset classes. These teams are supported by a full complement of support functions including Operations, Compliance, Risk, Information Technology, and Corporate Services.

To attract and retain a superior staff, HMC offers an excellent benefits package. HMC provides separate benefits from Harvard University, however as a Harvard affiliate, HMC employees receive many ancillary benefits. Benefits provided to HMC employees include medical, dental, life, and short-term and long-term disability insurance. HMC also provides vacation, pension plans, voluntary retirement plans, tuition assistance, and dependant care assistance.
