HMC & Harvard University

The primary mission of Harvard Management Company is to support the educational and research goals of Harvard University.

Returns from the endowment finance about one-third of Harvard’s annual operating budget and are used to support academic programs, provide financial aid and fund laboratories. Endowment returns have opened Harvard’s doors to students who otherwise would not have been able to attend and have helped finance life-saving discoveries in scientific research.

Links between HMC and the Harvard community extend beyond financial support to ongoing engagement between HMC’s team and the faculty, staff, students and alumni of the University. HMC managers teach and lecture on campus, just as University colleagues frequently provide valuable advice to HMC on financial markets, asset allocation and the global economy.
