Trusts and Gifts

Along with HMC’s mandate to manage Harvard University’s endowment, HMC’s Trusts and Gifts department provides professional trust management to donors for all planned gifts made to the University. Trusts and Gifts supports Harvard University, its development staff, and its donors by managing and administering life income gifts and offers a range of investment choices and trust vehicles to meet the needs of a diverse set of donors. Due to the depth and breadth of the Trusts & Gifts staff, HMC has significant financial flexibility to handle unique gifts for the benefit of Harvard including illiquid securities, real estate and other real assets.

Harvard University and its donors has come to rely upon HMC’s Trusts and Gifts department to manage all aspects of investing and administering life income gifts to Harvard University and serves as manager for all non-cash donations to the University. In this capacity, the group has oversight of approximately $1.5 billion of trust assets (as of 3/31/2007) and manages 770 trusts. In addition, our Chief Trusts & Gifts Officer, Jennifer Pline, regularly joins University development staff in seminars for alumni to discuss Planned Giving options.
