University Community

Beyond its role as an Investment Manager, HMC believes that it and the University community mutually benefit from engagement between HMC’s staff and the faculty, staff, students, and alumni of Harvard University. As such, HMC seeks to participate in a variety of aspects of University life including participation in courses offered in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and the Harvard Business School, academic research, interactions with student and alumni groups, as well as University financial advisory groups. HMC also regularly invites its University colleagues to HMC to engage with it on questions of financial markets, asset allocation, and the global economy.

Participation in the research and academic life at Harvard provides HMC with a direct connection to Harvard’s mission. This connection is strengthened by staff members who have faculty appointments at the University.

Harvard University is fortunate to have an engaged and thoughtful alumni base. HMC has also benefited from engagement with Harvard’s alumni. Over the past year, management and staff have had the opportunity to meet with the HMS Board of Fellows, the Harvard College Fund Leadership, Harvard Business School Reunion classes, the Harvard Alumni Association of New York, and a variety of other Alumni groups. These meetings have provided HMC with an opportunity to discuss the opportunities and challenges of investing a University endowment with a highly critical and committed group of alumni.

HMC is fortunate to draw upon members of Harvard’s faculty to meet with its Portfolio Managers and other staff members in order to explore current areas of research relevant to the evolving global marketplace.
